Digital printing is a process whereby a digital image is transmitted from an electronic file to paper on a digital press, either in black and white or full color. Digital presses work by applying an electrostatic charge to a piece of paper. Dry toner, either black and white or color, adheres to the charge. Typically, fuser oil is applied to the toner to fuse it to the paper. This technology has advanced greatly over the years to be faster, easier to use and more accurate.

Any manner of materials. Think billboards, posters, PVC banners, hoarding displays, building wraps, interior graphics like wallpaper, flex, vinyl’s and display boards as well as acrylics can even be realized this way. 

The Portable Document Format (PDF) is generally the preferred file format for submitting a document for printing as it works with virtually all professional printing and digital output devices. By design, a PDF file incorporates the information needed to maintain document consistency from system to system. Most other file formats such as Adobe InDesign, Illustrator and Microsoft Word are easily converted to PDF format.

The technology of design, layout and printing has come a long way to the point where much of the work is done in a WSYWIG (What You See Is What You Get) digital environment. However, there are sometimes noticeable differences in color calibration and spatial conformity from monitor to monitor and consequently from screen to print.

The process for minimizing any variance begins with adjusting your monitor for optimal color and clarity according to the manufacturer’s recommendations as outlined within its product manual or website. Doing this will alleviate a number of potential issues.

A proof is a one-off copy of your printed document used for visual inspection to ensure that the layout and colors of your document are exactly how they are intended to be. A proof is made prior to sending the document to the press for final printing.

Typically, we will produce a proof that will be sent to you online in PDF format or on printed paper, which can be either viewed in our store or delivered to you in person. For multiple-color jobs, we can produce a proof on our output device to show you how the different colors will appear on the final product.

Your approval on the final proof is the best assurance you have that every aspect of our work and your own is correct, and that everything reads and appears the way you intended. Mistakes can and sometimes do happen. It benefits everyone if errors are caught in the proofing process rather than after the job is completed and delivered.

Yes. The quality of the printer will obviously influence what can and cannot be rolled out but modern machinery will allow for the likes of white and UV red invisible inks alike. Clear varnish and gloss effects meanwhile are now commonplace, along with an emboss effect invaluable for the likes of certificates. 

Font embedding is the inclusion of font files inside an electronic document. When fonts are embedded into your PDF document and you send your file to somebody else, if they don’t have the fonts installed on their computer then the font information will be pulled from the PDF document. If you do not have your fonts embedded in your document and you send your PDF to someone who doesn’t have that particular font, then their computer will try and use a ‘similar’ font. 

Embedding fonts is different depending on which software you use. Below is a simple guide to help you embed your fonts in Microsoft Word. If you need help with other software please either contact us or look on our book templates page. 

Microsoft Word:

1. Click the File tab and then click Options (it’s near the bottom left corner of the window).In the left column, select the Save tab.
2. At the bottom, under Preserve fidelity when sharing this presentation, select the Embed fonts in the file checkbox.
3. Leaving that checkbox blank increases the file size, but is best for allowing others to edit the document and keep the same font.
4. Selecting Embed only the characters used in the presentation reduces the file size but limits the editing of the file using the same font.
5. Click OK.

Better than most traditional methods certainly.
